I never thought I'd wonder whether Christ was on planet Earth in my lifetime. But I have, and somehow I can't put the thought of it out of my mind. 

It all began during the summer of 2000 when I was browsing through the New Age/Spiritual section of my local bookstore trying to find something new and exciting to read. This is not an easy thing for me to do because I've devoured more than 400 of these books after experiencing a profound, spiritual awakening 10 years ago. 

I looked through the shelves and kept saying to myself "Thank you Spirit for bringing me something good to read."

I soon found my eyes focusing on a book called A Master Speaks. I picked it up, read a few pages, and immediately knew its message was, indeed, something new. As a matter of fact, it went way beyond something new. 

The book makes no claim for an author on the front cover. It was simply an inspired series of teachings given to a Benjamin Creme during the 1970's, which have since been published by a non-profit organization called Share International.

Who was the source of these teachings? The source is a Master from the Spiritual Hierarchy whose wisdom and insights were telepathically transferred to Benjamin Crème, who then transcribed them into words. Now, that in itself is not unusual for this New Age. There are many "inspired" books available today. But here is what really caught my attention...

In 1959, Christ told Benjamin Creme that He would be returning to planet Earth and that he (Creme) would have a role to play in the event if he chose to accept it. 

Then, in 1982, after many years of training with his Master, Creme went public with the message that Christ had returned.

According to Benjamin Creme, "The Christ is in the world. He has been in London since July 1977. There He lives and works as a modern man, concerned with modern problems - political, economic and social. He is spiritual but not a religious teacher, an educator in the broadest sense of the word…"

Christ would take on human form and be known as Maitreya (pronounced my-TRAY-uh), a name purposely chosen for its neutrality so that no single religion could claim Him as their personal messiah.

Also, Maitreya was not here to form a religion. Rather, He was here to play a role similar to the one He came to planet Earth for 2000 years ago. At that time, a projection of the higher Christ energy, Jesus, came to us as a Teacher of Righteousness to show us how to end injustice in this world through sharing and unconditional love for all.

The USA-based Tara Center Newsletter says, "Maitreya, the World Teacher, is the personal name of the Head of the Spiritual Hierarchy. He is expected by the world's major religions as the Messiah, Krishna, the Imam Mahdi, Maitreya Buddha, and the Christ. An avatar for the new age, He returns as the teacher and guide of all humanity, religious and non-religious alike. He comes with His group, the Masters of Wisdom. Together, they will inspire humanity to create a brilliant new civilization based upon justice and sharing."        

Creme goes on to say that Maitreya works behind the scenes with others to prepare the way for His public emergence, which will occur when the global financial markets reach their worst phase of collapse.

Maitreya's presence will be confirmed on the "Day of Declaration" when He will appear on worldwide television. When that happens His energy will unmistakably enter all of us, and hundreds of thousands of spontaneous healings will occur. And there will be no doubt that He is walking among us again.

To say the least, these are no small claims. If true, it would be the most profound event in the history of mankind. I was very aware that others have made "Christ is here" proclamations in the past, and I wondered to myself why this was any different. 

The only way I know how to sort truth from fiction is to keep an open mind while sifting through such information. Then, I see how it feels in my heart. Does it have the ring of truth to it, does it create vibrations of love, is it devoid of negative energy, does it try to control or motivate through fear, and most importantly, how does it feel at the soul (intuitive) level?

A Master Speaks is, without doubt, a message of hope and unconditional love. It also expresses a genuine concern for the social injustice and lack of sharing that exists on this planet. And how it will be righted and healed as humanity learns to see itself as one great family from one divine source during the New Age of Aquarius.

I had to admit that the words in this book were totally consistent with Jesus' sermon on the mount, and his vision for all of humanity. 

I then researched Share International's web site, and have read the free newsletter for more several years. None of it smacks of control or cultism, all of it honors and respects one's free will, and it continues to feel right in the heart.

During July 2000, I asked a very wise, awakened, and discriminating friend of mine to attend a Benjamin Creme lecture in New York City. I wanted to get his reaction to Creme's presence, message, and the energy he created. His reaction unequivocally confirmed my own feelings and personal observations. Even the New York Times gave this review about Creme's message: "A decidedly upbeat description of world changes."

Here are some interesting insights passed on to me by my friend who attended the Creme lecture:

Maitreya can materialize and dematerialize in the flesh at will

This time He will not be killed nor will it be possible to harm Him

He and other wise Teachers will be with us throughout the Age of Aquarius

Maitreya says that if the wealthy nations, businesses, and individuals share their abundance with the poor voluntarily, there will be a smooth transition to the new order. If not, a financial collapse of world proportions caused by humanity's greed will eventually accomplish the same thing. As always, the choice is up to us.  

All of this continues to hold my interest, while inspiring a sense of awe and wonder about the possible presence of the Christ energy. After all, isn't this the time of His promised return?

Benjamin Creme has humbly and courageously, gone about his work for many years spreading the message about Maitreya and His mission of love. I cannot find any apparent selfish motivations behind the dedicated, hard work that Mr. Creme has tirelessly given of himself for more than 30 years of his life. 

In the United States alone, he has been interviewed on more than 300 radio and television programs. At the age of 79 he still continues to give lectures of hope and inspiration throughout the world. His is no small effort. 

It would seem that millions of people have already been exposed to the possibility that Maitreya just might be here, or is it too incredible to believe? Would you have believed such a story 2000 years ago? There was a forerunner of Jesus at that time announcing his coming. Why not now? Surely, if ever humanity and planet Earth needed the presence of Christ, this would be the time. 

And what message has Maitreya for us? Here are some of His words…

"How can you be content with the modes within which you now live: when millions starve and die in squalor; when the rich parade their wealth before the poor; when each man is his neighbor's enemy; when no man trusts his brother? For how long must you live thus, my friends? For how long can you support this degradation?

Take your brother's need as the measure for your action, and solve the problems of the world. There is no other course.

When you see and hear me, you will realize that you have known for long the Truths which I utter... These simple Truths, my friends, underlie all existence. Sharing and Justice, Brotherhood and Freedom are not new concepts. From the dawn of time mankind has linked its aspiration to these beckoning stars. Now, my friends, shall we anchor them in the world.

I have not come to found a new religion. I have come to teach the art of self-realization, which is neither an ideology or religion but benefits all people of all religions and those who have none. I seek to express that which I am through you; for this I come.

Without disturbing anyone, I will choose my moment. Even when you see me, do not run after me. If you run after me, you will lose me. If you parade me, you do not know who I am. I cannot be monopolized - I belong to everyone.

I have not come to create followers. Each of you should continue to develop within your own religious tradition. Respect your own religions, your own ideologies - in brief, your own thoughtform, and you will experience the Master.

I do not want you to believe in me. I want you to experience me. If you take one step towards me, I will take two steps toward you. I will lend you my strength. I am always with you."

In terms of cosmic events and human destiny, this could indeed be the return of the Teacher we've been hoping and praying for during the past 2000 years. The more I research this material the more I am convinced this may very well be real because the noble efforts of Mr. Crème and the words of the Master and Maitreya always touch a very deep part of me. All of it resonates with love and truth. In the end, please make you own decisions. And may they come from the heart.

Please keep in mind that Maitreya's first appearances (on television) will be as an ordinary man whose message will appeal to those who want positive change to occur on this planet. We are told His first appearance will be in the United States. He will then repeat this message on television around the world. When the masses begin to clamor for a better way of life based upon justice, sharing and equality, He will announce Himself as Maitreya.

In addition to being the editor of Share International magazine, which circulates to more than 70 countries, Benjamin Creme has written 9 books, which have been translated into 11 languages, and continues to spread the message of Maitreya's return. He accepts no money for any of this work. Benjamin Creme is married, has three children and lives in London.
