Although Native Americans have many legends spanning thousands of years, the most sacred one involves the birth of a White Buffalo calf. It seems there are countless stories about the White Buffalo, with a slightly different tale being told for every tribe. Heres one that is typical... "Many years ago, says Tony Ironshell of the Rosebud Sioux tribe in South Dakota, three hunters encountered a white buffalo calf. The white buffalo turned into a woman and instructed the hunters to return to their village and prepare for her arrival. When she came four days later, she carried the sacred pipe. With that pipe she brought Sioux laws, and many things changed. The pipe from the White Buffalo Calf Woman is still kept in South Dakota." White Buffalo calf woman also said shed be returning one day as a white buffalo and that would signal a time of unity and goodness among people of all nations and all colors. Virtually all Native Americans believe that the birth of a white buffalo calf is seen as the most significant of prophetic signs; similar to how Christians revere the second coming of Christ. The Native Americans also see the white buffalo calf as a sign to begin mending life's sacred hoop, especially our connection with one another and with Earth Mother, whom we are rapidly destroying. What are the chances of a white, non-albino calf being born? At the height of their peak the buffalo numbered about 60-80 million. Under those favorable conditions, the chances of such an unusual buffalo appearing is about 1 in 10 million. But, in recent years, there are approximately 125,000 buffalo. With vastly fewer numbers, the odds against such an event happening have increased dramatically. In spite of their diminished numbers, there has been a flurry of white buffaloes born over the past 50 years or so. It seems to be a signal that something profound is happening to our planet as well as to humanity. In 1933, a white buffalo calf was born in Colorado. In 1994, another calf, named Miracle, was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, on the ranch of Dave and Valerie Heider. Since that time, thousands of people of many different faiths and cultures have visited Miracle, testifying that her birth is a call for all races to come together to heal the earth and to recognize that we are all one family sharing this planet. Soon after Miracle was born, a silvery-white buffalo calf named Medicine Wheel was born at the ranch of Joe Merrival on the Pine Ridge reservation of South Dakota. Then, after the birth of Medicine Wheel, another white calf, Rainbow, appeared in Merrivals herd. Sadly, it died 25 hours later of scours, a diarrhea-type condition. This wave of white buffalo calves being born is unprecedented. The sacred symbolism behind them is the real significance of these combined events. It ties in so well with so many other things that are happening these days and is clearly a part of the overall process that is helping to awaken humanity to its divine origins. A Sioux medicine man named Floyd Hand from Pine Ridge, South Dakota said that these births would affect all of mankind, not just Native Americans. "Its an omen thats bringing a change and a new world. The twenty-first century that is coming is going to unify all of us." Planetary awareness is expanding dramatically by information being brought to humanity in the form of channeled messages, crop circles, a renewed interest in angels, past lives and near-death experiences, UFO sightings, the Hopi Indian prophesies, the Mayan prophecies, the teachings of Edgar Cayce, Osho and others, the information we are learning about the Sphinx and pyramids, and much, much more. Please pay attention to the significance of the White Buffalo births and all else that is taking place these days. It is not an accident, nor is it without purpose. Let us all do our best to honor the sacred relationship we've forgotten to have with one another, our Earth Mother and, most importantly, our Source.
